Looks like Woody will not be attending the live reading after all. According to The Star :
A bit of disappointment at TIFF and the festival has barely open.
Juno director Jason Reitman has just tweeted that Woody Harrelson is stuck in Hawaii and will not be able to perform in the live reading of American Beauty slated for later today.
But the news might not be all bad.
Word has it that actor/comedian Paul Scheer will fill Woody’s shoes playing Col. Frank Fitts, the abusive, homophobic ex-marine in the film that depicts the dark side of American suburbia.
The movie premiered at TIFF 13 years and netted Oscars for director Sam Mendes, writer Allen Ball and lead actor Kevin Spacey.
The CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos, playing a small role of a gay neighbour of Fitts’, may be a bit disappointed with the news.
He said he was eager to watch Harrelson do his magic live, on stage and right in front of him.
TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) officially starts tomorrow 9/6/12 and Woody Harrelson will be taking part in a live reading of American Beauty.
According to Indie Wire :
This time, Reitman will put on a live reading of Sam Mendes‘ 2000 Academy Award-winning Best Picture feature, “American Beauty” (the picture won five nominations in total that year and was nominated for eight awards). Already featuring appearances by Sarah Gadon (“Cosmopolis“) and Adam Driver (“Girls“) ,earlier today half the cast was revealed, including Mae Whitman as Thora Birch‘s character and comedian Nick Kroll (“Community“) playing Peter Gallagher‘s part.
Entertainment Weekly has finally revealed the big coup of three more key parts from the original movie. Bryan Cranston as Lester Burnham (originally played by Kevin Spacey in a Best Actor-winning role), Christina Hendricks in the role of his wife Carolyn Bumham (played originally by Annette Bening) and Woody Harrelson reenacting the role of Col. Frank Fitts (Chris Cooper in Mendes’ film).
