The first novel in the Hunger Games trilogy is set in the nation of Panem located in the ruins of what was once North America. Panem the capitol is a cruel and heartless place that forces its 12 outlying districts into submission by requiring each district to send one boy and one girl from each district between the ages of 12-18 to participate in a fight to the death in their annual Hunger Games.

In this 1st book, we meet 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, who steps up to participate in the Hunger Games in an effort to save her younger sister who was originally chosen to play in that years games. Independent since she was a child, Katniss proves herself to be a skilled hunter and quickly becomes a contender in the games where she finds she has to make life altering choices about life and love in order to survive.

Catching Fire Synopsis

“Sparks are igniting. Flames are Spreading. And The Capitol Wants Revenge”

The second novel in the Hunger Games trilogy starts where the 1st novel left off. Katniss has won the Hunger Games, and she and her fellow district 12 tribute Peeta Mellark have both survived. However, Katniss soon finds that things at home have changed including her relationship with her bestfriend Gale, as well as her relationship with Peeta who seems to have turned his back on Katniss.

On top of all these changes, it looks like Katniss’ actions in the Hunger Games has triggered talk of unrest and rebellion toward the Capitol by the 12 districts. As Katniss and Peeta visit each of the 12 districts as a part of their Victory tour, they must once again resume their relationship, but soon discover that the Capitol is angry and wants revenge. Soon they Katniss and Peeta themselves once again at the mercy of the capitol, and forced to participate in the quarter quell Hunger Games.

Mockingjay Synopsis

The final novel in the Hunger Games trilogy finds that while Katniss her survived the quarter quell hunger games, Peeta has been taken by the Capitol, and her home destroyed . Luckily, Katniss’ family and best friend Gale have survived and are living in what Katniss once believed was an imaginary District 13, where a revolution against the Capitol is brewing.

In this story, Katniss finds herself at the heart of the revolution, and becomes a symbol of the rebel’s “Mockingjay”. To do this, Katniss must face hear fears, set aside her distrust, and embrace her role in this rebellion, while also dealing with the love triangle that has developed between herself, Peeta and Gale.
