According to Broadway.com :

The off-Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ The Two-Character Play cancelled previews on June 15 and 16 due to an injury to star Amanda Plummer. The June 17 performance has also been cancelled, but Plummer intends to return to New World Stages for opening night, June 19, as previously announced. The Two-Character Play co-stars Brad Dourif and is directed by Gene David Kirk.

“Ms. Plummer has sustained a knee injury which is causing her some discomfort,” the show’s producers said in a statement. “On doctor’s orders, she has been instructed to rest the leg as much as possible. Therefore, we felt it in the best interest of the production that after two extraordinary and luminous previews [on June 13 and 14] to cancel the final ones in order for Ms. Plummer to heal. We wished to follow the physician’s guidance, while respecting Ms. Plummer’s wish to take the stage.”

In The Two-Character Play, reality and fantasy are interwoven as two actors on tour—brother and sister—find themselves deserted by their troupe. Faced by an audience expecting a performance, they begin to perform, finding it difficult to differentiate themselves from their roles and reality from illusion.

Awww poor Amanda. We hope she feels better soon!

From Theater Mania :

Tony and Emmy Award winner Amanda Plummer (Agnes of God) and Academy Award nominee Brad Dourif (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) met the press on Tuesday, May 7 to preview the upcoming off-Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ The Two-Character Play, in which they will star beginning June 10 at New World Stages. Gene David Kirk directs the rarely seen drama, which opens June 19.

The Two-Character Play weaves together reality and fantasy as a pair of actors, brother and sister, are abandoned by their troupe and forced to perform for an expectant audience. Kirk’s production is dedicated to the memory of his mentor, Corin Redgrave, who introduced him to the drama, a work that exists in many different versions and was rewritten by Williams for over ten years.

Wondering what our Wiress will be up to this summer? According to the New York Times, Amanda Plummer will be returning to the New York stage by starring in  Two Character Play.  The show will preview on 6/10/13 and open on 6/19/13.

The Tony Award-winning actress Amanda Plummer (“Agnes of God”) will return to the New York stage for the first time 15 years in the Off Broadway premiere of Tennessee Williams’s “Two-Character Play,” the show’s producers announced on Monday. The production, to be directed by Gene David Kirk, will also star the Academy Award-nominated actor Brad Dourif (“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”).

It will be Ms. Plummer’s first major New York stage appearance since “Killer Joe” in 1998. (She had a short run in “The Exonerated” at the Culture Project in 2003.)

Loosely based on Williams’s relationship with his sister, Rose, “The Two-Character Play” weaves in and out of reality as two actors, a brother and sister, are forced to perform for an audience after being deserted by their own acting troupe. A news release describes the play as “equal parts Southern Gothic thriller, black comedy and psychological drama.”
