In a new article in S2S magazine, talks about her Hunger Games experience and her vision for her character Portia.
According to S2S magazine :
Booking one of the most highly anticipated gigs in Hollywood is no easy feat, but when you’ve got to basically create your character from the ground up, it presents a whole new challenge.
As it turns out, Latarsha was more than up to the task for her role as Hunger Gamesstylist Portia. She’s half the team tasked with creating memorable looks for District 12 Tributes Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. Portia works alongside Cinna (played by Lenny Kravitz) to pull off the super-glam, slightly incendiary ensembles.
Lenny had a lot to work with because Cinna had a lot of dialogue in The Hunger Gamesand his relationship with Katniss was more fleshed out. Latarsha, on the other hand, didn’t have as much to go on. Although Portia is an important part of the story (she works more closely with Peeta), she doesn’t speak very much.
So where did that leave Latarsha when figuring out how to play Portia? “The only way that I had was to really read the books and then use my imagination,” she explained to S2S. “It’s a mini collaboration with myself, the book and then the actual film.”
Latarsha quickly found out that her vision for Portia was on target with what the production behind The Hunger Games had in mind.
“There were things that came to me—ideas and mannerisms and colors and the way she might dress,” Latarsha said. “I was happily surprised that when I got there the vision of the amazing team…it meshed.”
While Cinna is very fond of simple, classic style (he’s never not wearing black), Portia is a little more partial to the over-the-top clothing of The Capitol. That means that she could be wearing anything that couturier’s fevered imagination could possibly dream up.
“I’m not really recognizable once I step into Portia,” Latarsha said, without giving too much of her look away. “I think she’s very much a fashionista and very grand but sophisticated. I believe Portia’s a complement to Cinna.”
She continued, “There are outfits of mine that were, I thought, quite phenomenal and helped me sort of really get into character.”

We’ve had very little information on the actors cast as the rest of the District 12 prep team, so I was so excited to read this great interview with Latarsha Rose who will be playing Portia in the Hunger Games movie.
In this interview with And We Present, Latarsha talks about her career, acting and the Hunger Games! Here’s an excerpt from the interview :
JS: Describe the moment and feeling that you had when you found out that you landed the role of Portia in Hunger Games?
LR: Can I actually take you back a month before that?
JS: Yes.
LR: So, a month or so before, I called my manger and I told him, ‘I think I’m going to retire from my theatrical career.’ I already earned a living career commercially. I told him that I’d been doing this for so long and I put my heart into it and that doesn’t always translate into a work opportunity. It can be frustrating and you come up against this wall. So fast forward a month later, I had a bunch of missed calls from my manager and my agent because I was in a commercial audition, so I stepped out and they told me [I got the role]. I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me?’
JS: How did you prepare yourself for this character?
LR: I started out by reading the book. I read the series about three times because that was all I had, so I wanted to immerse myself in that world as much as I could. Then I started to keep a journal of things and ideas that popped up to me as I was reading it. I began to think about Portia and how she may live, walk and exist in her world. I started to even explore what, and this may sound silly, but what she may wear, how she may dress and even what her favorite colors may be. So it was the little background things. I thought about what their world was like and different things of that nature.
