The release date for Lenny Kravitz’s new movie The Butler has been moved up. It will now be released August 16th 2013 instead of October 18th.

EXCLUSIVE: Looking to stir up a bit of early Oscar buzz, The Weinstein Company has slotted the Lee Daniels-directed The Butler to an August 16 release date. It had been skedded for October 18. That slot has done well for films that include The Help, Julie and Julia and Eat Pray Love, and TWC will hope to follow suit. The film looks at the life of Eugene Allen, who served eight presidents from 1952 to 1986 and had a birds eye view of the Civil Rights movement. He was long retired when Barack Obama became the first African American president, but was invited back for the inauguration. The cast includes Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey and Robin Williams.

I love Lenny Kravitz, so it comes as no surprise to me that he has  lent his support to UNICEF to raise awareness on the issue of preventable child deaths. Check out the video below :

NEW YORK, May 6, 2013 – /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Lenny Kravitz—GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter, record producer and actor—has recorded a public service announcement urging people to join UNICEF to bring about an end to preventable child deaths. Some 6.9 million child deaths every year are due preventable causes, of which as many as 1.5 million are from vaccine-preventable diseases.

“I’m a parent, and the thought of anyone’s child dying of something we can prevent is just unacceptable to me,” said Kravitz. “Vaccines cost so little, and when UNICEF says 100 percent of the world’s children can be immunized with enough funding, I think it’s important to support that goal.”

Lenny Kravitz, who is currently recording a new album from his home in the Bahamas, is issuing the new PSA just a year after he lent his support to UNICEF’s efforts to save and improve the lives of millions of children by providing them with access to clean water and adequate sanitation. In addition to the PSA, Kravitz will use his social media platforms to share UNICEF’s call for 100 percent immunization.

Although immunization is one of the most successful and cost-effective means of saving children’s lives (immunization against measles can cost less than $1) nearly 20 percent of the world’s children are still not immunized.

As we’ve heard, Jennifer Lawrence and David O’Russel will be reuniting for his follow up project from Silver Linings Playbook, and now we have a release date!

When we laid out a slew of contenders for next year’s Oscar season recently, we left off David O. Russell‘s currently untitled project revolving around the FBI’s ABSCAM public corruption investigation of the 1970s and early 1980s. The reason was we weren’t quite sure the film would make it out in time. Turns out, at least for now, that it will.

Sony Pictures has slated the film, formerly titled “American Bullshit,” for a December 13 limited release and a wide release on Christmas Day. The project reunites Russell with “Silver Linings Playbook” stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as “The Fighter” stars Christian Bale and Amy Adams with a little Jeremy Renner andLouis CK thrown in for good measure.

 

Woody Harrelson’s next film Now You See Me is set to release earlier than previously stated.

Now You See Me – Louis Letterier’s magical heist film starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher will now open a week earlier on May 31st.

 

 Also, The Butler, a film based on the screenplay written by Mockingjay P1 and P2 screenwriter Danny Strong and co-starring Lenny Kravitz now has an October 18th release date.

THE BUTLER, based on the screenplay by Danny Strong & Lee Daniels, is inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about an African-American man who served as a butler (Whitaker) to eight Presidents in the White House for over thirty years. From this unique vantage point, THE BUTLER traces the dramatic changes that swept American society, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family.
