Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) have both made the list of complex’s breakout actors. I for one agree!
Sam Claflin
Notable Role: Finnick O’Dair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Still unknown, even after appearing in huge movies like the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Claflin’s the guy who’s bringing your favorite books to life. Enjoy the Grimm fairy tale, ”Snow White”? Well, Claflin is the prince in Snow White and the Huntsman. Dig The Hunger Games? If so, feel free to get stoked on the fact that he’s about to appear as Katniss’ newest ally in the second installment of the trilogy, Catching Fire. As if we didn’t already have a hard enough time picking Team Peeta or Team Gale. —TA
Liam Hemsworth
Notable Role: Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
In 2013, Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth appears poised to reach the level of fame and success already achieved by his older brother, Chris, 29, who the world knows from Thor, The Avengers, and Snow White and the Huntsman. Liam’s role as Gale Hawthorne, one of Katniss Everdeen’s (Jennifer Lawrence) two suitors in The Hunger Games, expands significantly for Catching Fire, the wildly successful franchise’s second installment, which is slated for a November release.
Paranoia. In the more indie Dito Montiel crime drama Empire State, he’ll share screen time with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. If his work weren’t enough to make him a household name, he’s also marrying Miley Cyrus. You may have heard of her.
Too Fab compiled a list of book to film Hollywood Hotties, and are we at all surprised out 3 Hunger Games leading men made the list? Nope;-) Ogle below, and check the full list on Too Fab!
Liam recently flew into the Philippines to promote Bench clothing in which he is featured in their latest campaign. The Rappler has Liam talking Jennifer Lawrence and getting whipped in Catching Fire:
6. Expect to see him in more unique and challenging roles as he starts to look for “something new.”
“I look for scripts that I think are interesting and hopefully surprise audiences and give them something new to watch.
“I also look for directors who are passionate about what they do and have a new, creative look on film; hopefully bring something new to the table which I haven’t seen before.”
7. He says that it isn’t an act: Jennifer Lawrence, his ”Hunger Games”and ”Catching Fire”co-star, truly is “amazing.”
“She’s one of the most energetic, fun-loving people I’ve ever met. Working with her on set is just easy because she’s so good and she’s just won all these huge awards so congratulations to her for that. She’s amazing.”
8. Liam gets “whipped” in “Catching Fire” — literally.
“My character [Gale]gets whipped in this one. So I spent a couple of days on my knees getting whipped, which was pretty horrific.”
9. “Catching Fire” is turning out to be even better than “The Hunger Games.”
“There’s a whole lot of great stuff in ’Catching Fire.’ The characters are developing more; (director) Francis Lawrence had a whole new take on it.”
Here is a new interview Liam Hemsworth (Gale) did with The Philippine Star for Bench the clothing line he is promoting. Looking at pictures of Liam never gets old, enjoy!
Is there any competition among the brothers?
Yes, there is, admitted Liam in an interview uploaded in the Internet, adding, “We are brothers and we are always competitive, but it is a good thing, it is friendly, it pushes us and we are always happy whenever someone books something.”
In 2010, Liam starred in The Last Song (with Miley Cyrus), based on Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel, followed last year by The Hunger Games and then The Expendables (with such heavyweight actors as Sylvester Stallone, Jean Claude van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis).
Liam showed up for this interview almost two hours late, blame it on the flight from Australia that was delayed by two hours. That was a journey of several miles (oops! I mean the distance not the sound-alike of somebody’s name). At 6’3”, he’s a shy, gentle giant, very soft-spoken
The journalists scheduled for one-on-ones were asked to submit in advance a set of questions for the 10-minute interview each. Two of mine were crossed out (cannot be allowed) and here are the nine given the go-signal:
I understand that it’s the first time you are endorsing a Philippine product. How does it feel?
“It’s great! You know, I’m not too much about fashion, I want to keep myself pretty simple. I think if you’re comfortable in something, then that’s your style. Bench is, you know, casual and simple, but it’s got a creative flair.”
What Bench product do you like the most?
“I like simple stuff, you know. I like the one I’m wearing — a simple T-shirt, very comfortable.”
Do you and your brothers Chris and Luke have the same taste in clothes, the same fashion sense?
“No, not really. Luke, the eldest among us three, likes to wear quirky kind of printed shirts. Chris? It depends. He’s kind of laid-back. Sometimes, he he can be a little crazy with his style, I think, hehehehe!”
What makes up most of your wardrobe?
“Mostly casuals — jeans and T-shirts. Comfortable clothes.”
Any favorite color when it comes to shirts?
“I like darker shades. Green is more like it.”
Bench has a long line of men’s clothing, including underwear. What’s your favorite sleepwear?
“I usually sleep in Boxer shorts, hehehehe! I want to be comfortable so I want to sleep in as little as possible.”
Have you gotten used to living in the “goldfish bowl, glass house” that is Hollywood?
“There are times that it feels great living there and other times it can get so claustrophobic and you want to get out and, you know, just be by yourself and enjoy your time not being surrounded by so much, hmmm, crisis. But most of the time, I love it there because there are so many talents and I am able to meet some extremely talented directors and actors. They are people who are extremely passionate about making movies, like I am. In that sense, I love being in Hollywood. But at the same time, I grew up in a small place in Melbourne which has a population of only about 7,000. And that’s kind of what I’m used to and that’s where I want to get back to when I’m not in a big city.”
Yesterday we posted some awesome photos of Liam Hemsworth at the Bench press conference in Manila, Philippines. Now we have some video of the event taken by weareveryday.ph. Watch and enjoy!
