ABOUT THE EVENT:
Taking futuristic dystopian fashion and fun to whole new levels, Lionsgate’s THE HUNGER GAMES:CATCHING FIRE Capitol Party at Baoli Beach on Saturday evening sponsored by COVERGIRL was this year’s hottest event at the Cannes Film Festival. Themed around 2013’s most anticipated motion-picture release, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, the party was comprised of an exclusive guest list that included the film’s stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Sam Claflin, as well as director Francis Lawrence. COVERGIRL, which celebrated its partnership with the film at the event, provided touchups to party guests. Acclaimed DJ Snake kept everyone in the groove while a platoon of models remained in constant circulation clad in “Capital Chic” attire.
Lionsgate spent five months planning the exclusive affair paying close attention to every detail from importing Capitol portraits for the event, to providing specially coded tickets for each guest which included a pin for them to wear granting them access. The night rivaled the grandest celebrations hosted by President Snow.

The latest from Cannes: Jennifer Lawrence expected at Catching Fire party, PSH nabs new role, other cast projects updated

Cannes Film Festival is officially going on right now.  Studios come out in droves to present their films for distribution, make casting announcements, throw lavish parties, and enjoy the films screened at the fest. It looks like Lionsgate is throwing its biggest bash ever to celebrate Catching Fire later this year and to garner interest and possibly international sales ahead of Mockingjay 1 & 2 hitting theaters in 2014 and 2015. Jennifer Lawrence is rumored to attend the soiree.

The Hunger Games cast’s other projects have also had some news. Sam Claflin‘s Love, Rosie, currently filming, and co-starring Lily Collins, has been picked up for international distribution by Mister Smith Entertainment. No word yet on domestic distribution for that one.  Terrence Malick will reveal footage from his Knight of Cups, featuring Wes Bentley, to find international buyers. If Wes shows up in support, we’ll post pics here on the site.  In addition, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the new film God’s Pocket.

If you missed it the other day, or just want a better look, here’s a closer photo of the Catching Fire display outside the Majestic Barriere hotel in Cannes, and a great video to see it all in action!

Francis Lawrence on ‘Catching Fire’,Gale, the Cornucopia & assures ” It’s a really Faithful Adaptation”

SciFi Now recently caught up with the Hunger Games : Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence who talked a bit about the movie and reassures that the movie is a faithful adaptation of the book.

catching-fire-picture-1

The first Hunger Games movie stuck very closely to the book by Suzanne Collins, and new director Francis ‘I Am Legend‘ Lawrence has done the same in the sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Speaking exclusively to SciFiNow, Lawrence admits, “It’s a really faithful adaptation. We definitely made some cuts, but we did it with Suzanne [Collins, author], and I would say that it’s very, very faithful.”

One of the page-to-screen moments that Lawrence can’t wait for fans to see is the spinning cornucopia, which houses weapons that tributes can steal for themselves.

“There is a moment we have in the arena when the gamemaker starts to spin the cornucopia, and I’m very proud of that,” he tells us.

“We designed a very cool sequence and created a spinning island, and that’s going to be very, very cool. So that’s kind of fun and very unique. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

There’s also going to be a few more scenes with Gale (played by Liam Hemsworth) that Lawrence is particularly proud of.

“One of the very first things we shot was a sort of goodbye before Katniss goes into the arena that I like a lot. We actually shot it while we were in prep. We went out into a meadow, out in the mountains in north Georgia and shot this sequence over three or four hours, and I really like it.

“Jennifer and Liam are really good in it,” he adds. “It’s very nice.”
