Not sure how we missed this last month, but our Thresh, Dayo Okeniyi was featured in Hydrogen magazine last month with some new photos and an interview where he talks about his Hunger Games experience. Check it out!
Here’s an excerpt from the interview :
HM: How did you approach the role?DO: I approached it physically first. The book describes his physical appearance in
detail so I trained for about a month and a half for 3 hours a day. We did weight training for and hour and a half and then combat training. I started out around 165lbs and went up to about 180lbs at the end of training. For the second part, I read the books over and over again. It’s interesting because we see the character in the book through Katniss’ eyes but he’s not all he appears to be so there were a lot of gaps I could fill in and a lot to work with so I built from the outside – in.HM: Was there a lot of soaking up lessons by osmosis, working with veterans like Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci and the great cast you were surrounded by?DO: Absolutely, I went to set even on my off days to watch these amazing actors do what they do and Lord know I stole a lot of acting gold from them. They are all
incredible actors that have been doing this before I was born. I’d be a fool not to soak up as much as I did during our time working together. I hope to work with all of them many more times.
