At the premiere of Pitch Perfect, Elizabeth Banks along with the Pitch Perfect cast talk about the comparisons to Glee :
Set in the competitive, cutthroat world of a cappella singing, the stars of “Pitch Perfect” anticipated that people would draw comparisons between their musical comedy and Fox’s “Glee.”
“They both have singing in them,” Elizabeth Banks noted at the film’s premiere on Monday. Banks has a minor, yet hilarious, role in the film, which she co-produced.
Oscar-nominated Anna Kendrick – who belts out “No Diggity,” among other tracks, in “Pitch Perfect” – said “the script was so good that I was kind of willing to deal with” the “Glee” comparisons. “The script was just so different and so funny that I was like, we are just going to have to overcome that,” she added.
Skylar Astin, on the other hand, welcomes the connections.
“To be mentioned among the ranks of ‘Glee’ is a plus in my book,” said the actor, who appeared in “Spring Awakening” on Broadway. “But I just think there are some subtle differences … we definitely use singing but we never do it to advance the plot.”
“Pitch Perfect” opens Friday with an early, limited release. The film opens in wide release on October 5.
